What does or did R U OKAY DAY mean to you ? ⁣
⁣
Last week the 10th of September was R U OKAY DAY , and if you didn’t notice I never posted anything in relation to the day... Why ? ⁣
⁣
Because it is a bitter sweet campaign for myself , one that I feel is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to have but one that is also so easy to have that candid response if your asked the question. ⁣
⁣
“Yeah mate I’m fine“ the response I know I told many people even when I wasn’t. I personally lied through my teeth , didn’t want to be seen as not strong or even have any focus on me. ⁣
⁣
My point is that there are so many more questions and layers that need to be explored after that one question that is pushed through the media on R U OKAY DAY are you really ready for that ... ? ⁣

Over the next few weeks I will share the views of our ambassadors here at Diamonds in the Rough about their views on R U OKAY DAY , as I am just one person and one persons experience DOES NOT sum up how our community here at Diamonds in the Rough see such a well known and respected campaign “ R U OKAY DAY” , Our ambassadors have had different life experiences and we are going to share these . This is how I spent my Saturday after lunch. How did you ?

It’s been a busy week mentally and physically and that is why I have not been active on social media or the mental health campaign , I needed space to think and feel and just be in the present.

So this afternoon I took a trusty four legged mate out and he gave the best snuggles and life advice. Sometimes to show up for you all , I need to stop and show up for me first.

Iv had to learn this lesson the hard way , I share it with you so you don’t have to as well. Remind yourself that it’s okay to take a break and you don’t have to justify it to no one and that is “ A Okay “

⁣Have you ever thought of the power of one? What impact can one have? one word? one good turn?⁣

Have you ever been in a dark place? Felt alone, helpless, and invisible?⁣
⁣
If you have time can I tell you one little story about how I realised the power of ONE?⁣
⁣
In late 2018 I moved to the state capital, Perth. A city of many cultures, bustle of people and where I moved to start a new chapter in my life from a student of Agriculture studies to Beauty Therapy studies.⁣
⁣
The transition from the country to the city was one I underestimated. In such a crowded city I had never felt so alone. So many people on the train but never any eye contact to anyone ever, so many people on the road but know one ever waved like they did in the country, so many people in a pub but I had no one to chat to and cheers those drinks with.⁣
⁣
I went from the ONE person that I thought had my back in the journey , my partner at that point of time open up to me to tell me that I , me , one human just wasn’t enough for him , he wanted more than just me. Just me was not enough to fulfil his needs and desires. I don’t hate him for this because I learnt a lot about ONE of the most important people in my life, ME.⁣
⁣
So in that time I realised the power of ONE. I had ONE mate that came to my side and picked me up from the gutter. I came across ONE lady on the train that smiled at me ONE morning, and it changed the outlook of that one day. I had ONE café that slowly knew my name and would wish me a great day at college . I made ONE great mate while I studied.⁣
⁣
You may never know the impact ONE action, ONE smile , ONE kind gesture , ONE mate can have on the mindset of someone when they may be at a low point in their day or life.⁣
⁣
Just one good turn can be a lot.⁣
⁣
